Day 12 of lockdown

Well I don’t know about any of you out there, but I am losing the days of the week and the time of the day. They all seem to be melting into each other, hence why I decided when I started this blog, to write the number of days we had been in lockdown.

So we are still keeping busy and keeping in touch with family and friends. Also keeping each others spirits up as best we can.

Today we changed it round and woke up to our 30 minute cardio workout. Did some washing and hung out on the line and then around mid-morning went for a walk around the block. It is great to see people on our route and everyone giving each other pleasantries as they pass. We have a rest home and a retirement village locally and always wave and say hello as we pass. Even the nurses with patients sitting out on the balconies always wave and say good morning.

After lunch I did my Tai Chi whilst hubby went on his bike ride. It gives us a half an hour away from each other, which must be healthy in these circumstances, isn’t it?

We have a quiet night planned this evening and now my sleep is getting back to normal. I don’t know about any of you, but since all this happened, my sleeping pattern has gone to pot. By that I mean, I haven’t been able to have a good quality night’s sleep, instead waking up during the night and then dozing and waking and dozing again. Last night was the first night I felt I had that quality to my sleep. Who knows, once this is all over it will probably come back again and I will have some more restless nights, but for the moment I will enjoy my sleep.

Take care everyone and stay safe.

Smile and have a happy day 🙂

Day 11 of lockdown

Clocks changed early this morning so we had an extra hour in bed, if we wanted it. We needed it after watching a film later in the evening. The film was The Blues Brothers. An iconic and a great film, so a little late to bed last night.

We started this morning with a 30 minute resistance workout and then weeded our front garden as our green waste bin is due to be collected on Tuesday. It is pretty full, what with the lawn clippings and shrub waste already in there.

After lunch hubby and I worked on our own projects until mid afternoon when we did a further 30 minute resistance workout.

The weather has been perfect again and is looking that way next week too.

It has been a bit if a quiet day today, but a good time to just unwind and relax. We will be ready to start next week afresh with walks around the blocks and cardio workouts.

Hope you are all keeping busy and staying safe.

Smile and have a happy day 🙂

Day 10 of lockdown

Saturday and usually time off to rest and relax, but obviously we have been relaxing for 10 days now. By relaxing, I mean at home catching up on things that we would have normally done at the weekends.

We found some questions and answers for a quiz we will undertake with family members over the phone next week, which should be fun.

The weather today was hot and sunny and after we had done the housework, hubby went out and did the essential food shopping for us. When he returned and we had washed all the fruit and vegetables in soapy water and wiped down all the other items as requested we fired up the barbeque. It was a lovely time sitting under our gazebo eating lunch and watching the birds in the garden and listening to the crickets and other noises that were going on around us.

Tonight we will be watching a film, but which one is yet to be decided, but I am sure we will pick a good one.

It’s a sad time all around the world, but we need to stay calm and be kind to each other. Keep in touch, stay at home and be safe.

Smile and have a happy day 🙂

Day 9 of lockdown

Apologies for the lateness of this days blog.

Yesterday (Friday) was day 9 of lockdown and our usual morning bike ride for hubby and Tai Chi for me. A quick walk around the block for some fresh air and some steps.

Decided this morning to have a look and sort out a survival bags in case of earthquakes or tsunamis . Bags we can take that have the essentials in if we need to leave in a hurry. This was a testing time and a few raised voices. I was trying to keep to a carry on roller suitcase and a couple of carry bags, but not everything would go in. We had a stove and some small replacement gas, a small tent, emergency rations etc. It was decided after many discussions that we would fit as much stuff into a plastic box and use a trolley to take with us. Hope this works

Did our usual 30 minute cardio workout from the internet in the afternoon and enjoyed a quiet night watching a Jason Bourne movie.

Not a bad day today. I expect everyone will have a tetchy moment or two during all of this lockdown and that is understandable. It is a trying time for all of us, but be kind to each other as we are all in this together.

Smile and have a happy day 🙂

Day 8 of lockdown

Now is the start of our second week of lockdown.

Our walk around the block and, for the most part people were social distancing. In normal circumstances when 2 people are talking to each other and someone walks through the middle of them it is considered bad manners. In this current situation when people are supposed to be keeping their distance and someone blatantly walks through the middle of them that is just being reckless.

We have never done so much keep fit at home. The internet has a vast array of choice and is a really great way to keep up your energy and your mental health. We are finding the workouts fun to do.

Our eating habits have changed slightly, not so many snacks, which is always good. Have had a small amount of wine, but for the most part, we have done very well.

So far so good, but I think this is going to be a longer lockdown than first advised. Hopefully I will be wrong, but there are too many people out and about having fun.

Hope everyone out there is staying safe and taking care of themselves and their loved ones.

Smile and have a happy day 🙂

Day 7 of lockdown

I am glad we are having some good weather here so that we can take our daily walk around the block. It is nice to have acknowledgements from the people we say and say “Hello’ and ‘Good Morning’ too.

Cannot believe we have been in lockdown for 7 days already. The time has gone really quickly.

We have enjoyed the refrigerator biscuits we made yesterday, although not all of them. Have drank some wine and a shot of gin. You need to enjoy something in this situation.

Thank you to our refuse collection team who picked up our rubbish bins this morning, also to the other front line workers that are keeping the country going. We appreciate all your work and for keeping the country running.

Why are people going to the beach and surfing? Why are people having parties and playing sports? Don’t quite understand. Surely the more we do now the faster we will be out of lockdown and able to get on with our lives, how ever they may look after all of this.

Smile and have a happy day 🙂

Day 6 of lockdown

Well so far so good. We haven’t driven each other crazy or annoyed the shite our of each other either.

The first week has nearly passed and we have done quite a bit.

This morning as with the other mornings, hubby went for a bike ride whilst I did my Tai Chi. Around mid morning we went for our usual walk around the block and popped into the local dairy for some bread, eggs and some flour. Now who would have thought that the one thing to be in a high demand would be flour. Well it is over here as so many people are baking at home and we were advised that our local dairy had a new supply in. We haven’t needed flour for months, but like everyone else we were baking and made some refrigerator biscuits.

This afternoon we did a 30 minute workout via the internet. We started these 30 minute workouts from Day 1. Not everybody’s cup of tea, I know, but we are really enjoying them and it keeps us moving. We don’t want to spend time vegetating as that is when your mind starts to wander. Keeping active and busy is, for us, always a good idea.

Another day nearly finished and we have had another good day. Looking forward to what tomorrow may bring.

Smile and have a happy day 🙂

Day 5 of Lockdown

It is the start of a brand new working week, but not for us now.

Hope you are all looking after yourselves and social distancing, a phrase, that I am sure will be in the oxford English dictionary in a year or so. Keep in touch with other via all the social platforms that you have available, not of course forgetting the old phone.

So, hubby went on a bike ride this morning whist I did some Tai Chi, as I always do on a weekday morning. When he returned we had a what’s app invitation to a play pub quiz. That was actually very good fun and we got connected with family overseas. It was good to see them. It took under and hour to complete and it took all our minds of what was actually happening in the real world outside.

Then we took a walk around the block and was surprised to see more people out and about, walking and jogging. Even some of our elderly neighbours were out and about walking. It still seems surreal to see so many cars parked up driveways and to see few vehicles on the roads. The silence is pulpable at this time. We did hear some sweet bird sounds and also the noisy crickets.

This afternoon it is study time and also my time to write this blog. I don’t know if anyone will read this, but this is my kind of diary about what is happening and what we are doing. We are trying to remain positive, although sometimes it feels as if we are loosing the fight.

All we can do at this point is not to worry or stress, as this is what it is. I would rather put mine and my hubby’s health first more than anything else at this point in time. We have no control over this, but can play our part in trying to stop it.

Stay at home and be healthy everyone please.

Smile and have a happy day 🙂

Day 4 of Lockdown

Another day and we were going to the shops this morning to get some essentials. My hubby said that he thought it would be better for him to go as I have previously had mild pneumonia and then a couple of years later I had bronchitis. So he was the fittest of us both.

He said the roads were quiet, obviously because of the lockdown. The queue outside the supermarket was spaced and stretched past the front of the paint shop next door. They were only letting a few in at a time.

For a shopping trip that we can usually do in around half an hour or so took him just over two hours. The shelves were slightly fuller than last time and some of the products were low, but he came back with everything on his list.

Whilst he was out, I completed some of the up and coming year end account information for the accountant, as time was on our side.

A couple of lawn mowers were started, but that was all that was really heard around us.

This afternoon we cleaned out more of our kitchen cupboards and gave them a good clean out.

Hope you are all staying safe and healthy.

Smile and have a happy day 🙂

Day 3 of Lockdown

Yesterday afternoon we did some study and sorted the clean washing out. In the evening we caught up on a couple of T V shows.

This morning we decided to take in some fresh air with a walk around the block. We saw people walking, cycling and gardening. We are walking around others as if they have the plague, but it is necessary. Everybody we encountered this morning were pleasant, some said morning or hello, whilst others put their hands up to acknowledge us.

It was a surreal walk, the roads were quiet and we only saw about 5 cars and a bus. We did hear some children laughing and a few dogs barking, but overall very, very peaceful.

When we got home we decided to do some gardening, which was nice. There were a couple of lawn mowers running but other than that, nothing.

This new way of life is so different and will be remembered for many year to come.

I hope you are all staying safe and staying in touch with others We are glad we are otherwise we would be going a little stir-crazy.

Smile and have a happy day 🙂
